IPIL, PHILIPPINES — Zamboanga Sibugay’s Rep. Wilter Palma II (1D) was elected Monday as deputy majority leader of the 18th Congress.
Palma, son of Zamboanga Sibugay Gov. Wilter Palma, will serve as an ex-officio member in all committees of the House of Representatives.
Section 17 of the House Rules says that the deputy majority leader will assume the duties and responsibilities of the Speaker if the latter is absent.
The 37-year-old congressman said being the deputy majority leader gives him the opportunity to further the interest of his constituents and the whole province.
“I will do my best for the interest of my beloved constituents,” he said.
Palma is the only congressman elected as deputy majority leader twice in a row. He held the post during the 17th Congress. (amm)
