Local officials warned vs fake DILG exec

Manila – A person is going around in the region, and possibly somewhere else, posing as assistant secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). The local government officials are warned against transacting business with this person.

DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año said one Salvador Hussey Escarian II was reported to have introduced himself as a DILG Assistant Secretary. In some instances, Escarian introduced himself as a high-ranking Malacañang official.

Año warned the public to refrain from entering into transactions with Escarian because he is not connected with the DILG.

A report had reached Año that Escarian was able to hold conferences in Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Norte with the participation of the officials of DILG in the region.

The reports from the provincial and regional office of the DILG said Escarian had attended the launching of several government initiatives such as Mamamayan Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayan Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga (MASA MASID) in Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Escarian was able to arrange a meeting with Zamboanga Sibugay Governor Wilter Palma introducing himself as assistant secretary from the Office of the President.

The DILG chief said the provincial government of Zamboanga Sibugay had confirmed that were able to provide Escarian a vehicle about a month upon his request.

Presenting himself as an assistant secretary of the Office of the President, Escarian had allegedly solicited from the local government of Payao in the amount of P200,000.

“Make no mistake, this Escarian is not in any way affiliated with the DILG or any of our attached agencies. Do not be victimized by his posturings,” warned Año in an interview with the Manila Bulletin.

Escarian is a fake, Año said, using fake documents to gain the trust and confidence of government officials.

Año told all the LGUs to report to the Philippine National Police (PNP) at any time Escarian will establish contact with them.

“I urge all local government officials to be more vigilant. Let us not be fooled by individuals intending to cause disarray in our ranks. This individual is identified as a nuisance and we will get to the bottom of this,” he said. (jm/ Photo: PIA)
